====== Letter Template Merge Fields ======

This section is for working through buttons, related lists and lightning pages for the Letter Template Merge Fields object. Letter Template Merge Fields is a way to generate merge field data that is used in the Letter Template record's Template Body field. It works in conjunction with Letter Template and Letter Output. Add custom fields as needed. For more detailed instruction on configuring Page Layouts or Lightning Pages, see the [[1accounts|Accounts]] or [[20contacts|Contacts]] object configuration.

It's important to understand that Letter Template will merge the data into a Letter Output record. If your organization needs to generate Word documents or PDFs for email or print, a document merge tool is needed.

==== Page Layouts ====
    * Click **Setup**, **Object Manager**, **Letter Template Merge Fields **
    * Select **Page Layouts**, Select **Letter Template Merge Field Layout**, then **Save As** to create a new version
    * Click **Related Lists** in the pallet
        * Add or remove related lists as needed
    * **Save**
If a new page layout was created, assign to the appropriate Profiles

==== Lightning Page ====
Follow the steps below to clone the Letter Template Merge Field Record Page and customize.

From Letter Template Merge Fields, Object Manager, Select **Lightning Record Pages**
    * Click **Letter Template Merge Field Record Page**, Click **Clone** and add a new label and API Name, configure as needed
    * **Save** and **Activate**
